Three talks from Martin on the nature of Hope.

Two talks given by Martin on the subject of hope. Hope could well be described as a confident expectation of good. Indeed, Christ is our grounds for certainty of full salvation and by the Holy Spirit we are sealed - the first sum laid down giving the assurance of full payment. Martin also clarifies the difference between hope and faith.

Martin's three talks on Ephesians, MF 37-39, are now available as a 2-CD set for only £7.50.

Martin starts by looking at the nature of this unique book: Likely to have been written to a number of churches in the area and not specifically to the church in Ephesus. It contains some of the highest truths and deepest revelations of the Church, and details the breadth of the spiritual blessings that we have in Christ.

The first of these two talks looks at the words used for sons in the bible, from infants to mature sons. Martin also outlines the correct meaning of adoption as used in Ephesians 1:5. In the second talk, Martin outlines the gifts and working of Christ in us - that which He has done and that which He is doing. We were dead in our transgressions and subject to God's wrath, but we have been made alive together with Christ. We are now seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus!!

The Great Commission or the Great Commandment. Starting with the resurrection of Jesus, we look at the responsibility of believers. What do we do with this Good News? We start with the Great Commission in Matthew 28, looking at it in context and its relevance in eschatology. We then move on to look at the Great Commandment, as recorded in Matthew 22, and its application to believers. Finally, we ask the question 'Which is the Greater: The great Commission or the Great Commandment?'

An excellent study looking at the attitude we should take towards those things that God has given us to do now, whilst we are awaiting greater revelation on what God's plan is for us. As has been spoken many times of late, God calls us to do 'What we can, where we are, with what we've got.'

Another excellent study by Martin looking at Baptism in the Church age - what do we believe in baptising in the name of the Lord and not the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and what is this passage of scripture referring to? Martin provides a clear and simple basis from which to undestand all the relevant scriptures

Martin's most recent talk is a challenge to walk in faith. Faith comes by hearing and hence we must listen for the word in order that we can stand on it. Martin uses the example of Jairus' daughter and the woman with the issue of blood to draw out some useful points that we can apply in our own lives.

After crossing the Jordan Israel were told to create a memorial for future generations to see. Sadly, Israel never fully took the land and one might wonder whether this was because many never moved on from the memorial that was erected. They wearied of continually having to take the land; preferring to look back upon that which God had done rather than push towards that which He was desiring to do at that time; looking back to the miracles of sustenance where they simply had to wait for their provision to arrive in the morning. Were they still gazing at what had been?
